Baghdad / Bagdad

Maria Laskar traveled to Iraq just before the first American-led Gulf War kicked off. She worked as a photo journalist documenting life in Iraq’s largest city, and sold stories and photos to newspapers including Norway’s Dagbladet, France’s Le Monde, and USA’s The New York Times.

Baghdad’s landscape has changed dramatically since the last Gulf Wars in Iraq. These photos represent the cityscape of the past.
